Nashville Counselor & ARTIST

Expressive arts and painting, much like therapy, is an exploration of looking, and exploring and accepting what has long been under the surface, and bringing it to the light for healing. Likewise, when I approach a painting, or a client in looking for comfort and help, it is the art of discovering what needs to be seen, known, and loved.

Sometimes, in our busyness in life, we forget to look inside, or we are afraid of what we will see. Trauma, pain, and the loss of life has brought us, keeps us isolated and alone in our feelings. In the safety of therapy, emotions can be explored both verbally and nonverbally through various art therapy mediums. It is not about product, it is about the process. When we were children we knew how to freely draw or paint, without judgment, but slowly we began judging ourselves harshly, and forgot that we had emotions/colors inside that had something to say.

In my work with clients, sometimes we talk, sometimes we draw, sometimes we paint, sometimes we listen. That is why, I believe in a personalized psychotherapy approach. I also use EMDR and IFS modalities in trauma-informed therapy to explore the mind/body connection to healing.
